Laser Therapy Cognitive Effects
What is Transcranial photobiomodulation?
Transcranial photobiomodulation also referred to as tPBM involves applying low levels of infrared light to stimulate specific neural tissues. This type of laser therapy treatment is given various names but essentially it can be used to enhance and stimulate different areas of the brain. There is a large head laser which is used for inflammation while a smaller laser head is used to localized areas of pain. The laser therapy is usually done for 1 to 10 minutes on a certain area of the head. Therefore, while the laser type is the same for both the difference in laser heads allows for better precision in either dealing with inflammation or pain.
When is laser Therapy useful ?
Infrared Laser Treatment can be used to treat a large variety of conditions such as TBI, PTSD, depression and increase overall cognitive function. There have been many research articles published on the beneficial effects of infrared light especially in the range of 600 to 1000nm, through stimulating mitochondria and resulting in new synapses being formed. In other words, laser therapy works because it stimulates the re-growth of neurons which helps with various neurological symptoms. tPBM is proven to reduce the size, and severity of brain injuries and strokes as well as diminish physiological symptoms such as depression, PTSD and anxiety. Laser therapy has proven to be very potent!
Where can I receive this therapy?
