Covid and HBOT

COVID-19 and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

With COVID-19 more prevalent than ever, we at NorCal brain center want to help offer the best tools and treatment to help heal those that have had COVID-19. The hyperbaric oxygen chamber is an extremely effective tool in treating those that have traumatic brain injuries, strokes, chronic illnesses, autoimmune problems, and many others. Recently studies have shown that it can also be effective in healing those that have COVID-19 and helping those recover from the lingering side effects.

What is a hyperbaric oxygen chamber and what does it do?

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy involves a patient being enclosed in a hyperbaric chamber that will deliver oxygen at 2-3 times the atmospheric pressure, thereby delivering more oxygen than you would normally receive. Allowing this to happen will ensure that our body is getting more blood and nutrients delivered to our muscles and tissues. Our blood is filled with oxygen, molecules, and nutrients that are essential to our health. Without these nutrients our body would not be able to nourish itself and take care of us when we need. When someone has had or has COVID-19, their body is being deprived of essential nutrients and molecules because it is devoting all its power to healing YOU and not enough time focusing on everything else. A hyperbaric oxygen chamber is an aid that comes and helps give your body a boost to keep fighting helping increase the amount of blood and oxygen your tissues are getting.

Those with pre-existing respiratory issues can have a harder time recuperating from COVID-19 and even getting over it. In the hyperbaric oxygen room, the higher-pressure environment allows for greater levels of oxygen to pass through those inflamed and now thickened tissues of the lungs. The oxygen passes through the lungs delivering all its nutrients into the blood stream. Hypoxemia is a below-normal level of oxygen in your blood which can cause circulation and breathing issues. Hypoxemia was found to be one of the key determinants in the deterioration of patients with COVID-19. During the time someone is sick, the virus will attack the lungs and cause an incredible amount of inflammation in the lungs. Through this the body will have a harder time delivering oxygen to the rest of the body. This is typically where the ventilators will come in to help restore the oxygen levels and keep the person breathing while their body fights off the infection.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) can help aid the body in fighting off the virus while keeping it strong to stay alive. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a great tool for those that also are recovering from COVID-19. After COVID-19 our body can struggle to go back to how it was. HBOT can help give it a helping hand in healing the tissues and organs of our bodies that have been damaged by COVID-19. The long term lasting effects of COVID can be extremely difficult and long standing, so we understand the need to want to help take care of them.
