What is Neuroinflammation?

Neuroinflammation is defined as the inflammation of the nervous system. There are many things that could cause neuroinflammation in our bodies including traumatic brain injuries, infections, metabolites that are harmful to our bodies, and autoimmunity. These are some of the most common ones that we see every day, but it is not limited to just those. Inflammation causes symptoms that we can recognize such as fatigue, fever, mouth sores, pain, redness, swelling, rashes, abdominal/chest pain, and many others. Inflammation can show up in all the tissues in our body from your heart, your brain, and even your gut. When such inflammation happens, the tissues in our body can no longer to absorb nutrients properly therefore we become deficient in certain vitamins and nutrients. Our body then tends to feel like its drained, almost as if it is impossible to go about our day.  NorCal Brain Center offers Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for clients that are struggling with neuroinflammation issues.  How Can a Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber Help Someone With Neuroinflammation?

When tissues in our body are damaged our body will send more blood their way because our blood is filled with important nutrients and molecules that help with healing the damaged tissue. The hyperbaric oxygen chamber delivers oxygen to your tissues at three times higher pressure. Delivering oxygen at a higher pressure means that more oxygen will be delivered to the tissues than normal. A normally long process is therefore expedited by the hyperbaric chamber. After continuous hyperbaric oxygen treatments, patients should be able to notice a difference  with how they are feeling and see an improvement in the symptoms that they initially had.

What Do I Do When I am in a Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber?

A session in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber can vary depending on what your healthcare providers deems is necessary. Typically, one enters the hyperbaric chambers and sits down for a session that can last upwards of 1.5 hours. There are numerous things that one can feel while in the chamber all which are completely normal. When pressure rises, it is normal for our ears to feel plugged like what happens when you go up a mountain and your ears close off. If this happens, swallowing or chewing gum can help alleviate this feeling. After a session feeling lightheaded, fatigued, or having a headache is all completely normal; your body is just recovering from the session. Your healthcare provider will tell you if you qualify for treatments as there are people that are not able to do them. Examples would be people who have just had ear surgery, have a cold, and certain types of lung disease.
