Norcal Brain Center has been featured on CBS News as an expert on concussions and different treatment options.
We offer different neurological treatment programs to address a variety of conditions. All of our patients undergo a comprehensive initial evaluation that allows our doctors to determine what treatments are necessary for you. We offer a wide variety of unique and effective treatments to help improve your condition. Each treatment program is custom tailored to each individual so that we can address the root cause of your symptoms.
Concussions/Traumatic Brain Injuries can change the way the brain functions in many different ways. It can affect physical, mental, and neurological health. Most concussions are undiagnosed, and many go untreated even decades after the trauma. The most common symptoms include: headaches, dizziness, blurry vision, sensitivity to light/sound, gastrointestinal distress, anxiety, depression, brain fog, memory loss, and other cognitive deficits.
Dizziness is a term used to describe a range of sensations, such as a spinning sensation, unsteadiness, feeling faint or woozy. It is the second most common complaint heard in doctor’s offices today.
Although dizziness is extremely common, there can be many different causes for dizziness. Because there are many different causes, specific testing needs to be done to identify the cause of the dizziness. Once that has been identified, a unique treatment plan can be implemented to fix the cause of the dizziness.
Many facilities have cookie cutter treatment plans for dizziness. At Norcal Brain Center, we do not believe in this approach. We find that in a lot of cases, it is ineffective and produces limited results, and often times will make the symptoms worse. All of our treatments are specific to the individual’s findings.
Headaches are one of the most common health problems that people have. Headaches are defined as a pain in any region of the head. They are classified into many different types of headaches.
They can appear as a dull ache, throbbing, sharp pain, in addition to symptoms such as dizziness, light/sound sensitivity, nausea, neck/jaw pain, and visual issues.
Dysautonomia is a condition that affects the part of the brain responsible for automatic body functions such as breathing, blood pressure, heart rate, temperature and sweating. It can cause many symptoms and there are many conditions within the dysautonomia umbrella, such as orthostatic intolerance, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), and vasovagal syncope.
Other symptoms can include swelling of hands/feet, redness in hands/feet, dizziness, and fatigue. Dysautonomia has been associated with digestive issues such as bloating, constipation, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO).
Rates of chronic disease and metabolic illnesses have gone up exponentially in the past few decades. Conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and autoimmunity have now become the norm instead of the exception. These conditions lead to a host of physiological and neurological complications if left untreated. These conditions are often complex and require extensive testing to determine the root cause.
We are able to test your attention, inhibition, short term memory, working memory, visuospatial processing, reasoning and planning skills. Once we get an idea of where your baseline is at, we can do specific NeuroRestoration exercises for those tests with weaker scores. We can objectively measure progress and show change in brain performance.
Functional Neurology is a paradigm of care that focuses on the body as a whole, instead of separate parts. Functional Neurology is specifically for individuals with diseases, injuries, or disorders of the nervous system. The goal of this program is to reduce symptoms, improve function and to improve your quality of life.
Each patient receives a comprehensive evaluation which the treatment program is then based on. We combine therapies such as neurological rehabilitation, balance training, gait rehabilitation, vestibular rehabilitation, coordination training, physiotherapy modalities, cognitive training, and many more. Our treatments are designed to strengthen connections in the nervous system.
Neurofeedback starts with a brain scan called a qEEG that maps out the entire brain and its brainwaves. This brain map allows our doctors to measure your brain waves, allowing us to see if you have any abnormal brain activity and where in your brain that abnormal activity is.
Neurofeedback is a form of biofeedback that teaches the brain to self regulate and “normalize.” Auditory or visual stimulation is used as a positive feedback for desirable brain activities. We can target abnormal areas of the brain to improve regulation and train the brain to go into normal ranges.
